The problem around here is that no one accepts batteries. The recycling centers turn you away and the local municipality will not pick them up.

The problem around here is that no one accepts batteries. The recycling centers turn you away and the local municipality will not pick them up. That is such a shame that they don't accept them or turn you away as it means so many people are throwing away batteries in the usual household waste which can not only be bad for the environment but also can be fatal for those who collect the household rubbish and work with the truck that collects it. I always collect any batteries that have been used and when I have plenty, I take them to one of two stores that I know of that accept them and leave them there to be recycled.

naturalwestmichigan.com/lowering-our-battery-footprint"Americans love their disposable batteries. Every year, they buy and discard about 3 billion of these small-sized power sources that keep cellphones, flashlights, toys and computer accessories running. Lithium-ion and alkaline batteries dominate the market due to their efficiency and versatility. While single-use batteries significantly tax the environment, advancements in production, lifespan and recycling can lead to a greener future...." My notes: Since we have an article on recycling, I figure one to help reduce the wear & tear i.e. turning off battery powered gadgets, will be beneficial as well. Uncrowned, shortie, Bob,

Just like unplugging when not in use then. In a way, yes. I honestly don't think of removing the batteries but I should.
