healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2017/03/28/giraffe-populations-plummet.aspx Story at-a-glance The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) added giraffes to its Red List of Threatened Species, classified as vulnerable Over the last 30 years, giraffe populations have plummeted by up to 40 percent, dropping from more than 151,000 giraffes in 1985 to an estimated 97,562 giraffes as of 2015 Habitat loss, civil unrest, illegal hunting and ecological changes are the primary threats facing giraffes My notes: People killing them for their tails!

healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2021/10/21/all-about-giraffes.aspx Story at-a-glance A new study suggests that giraffes — a very understudied mammal — are a highly complex and social species similar to elephants and killer whales Among the study’s findings are that giraffes spend up to 30% of their lives in a post-reproductive state; known as the “Grandmother hypothesis,” it suggests that females live long past menopause so that they can help raise successive generations of offspring, thereby ensuring the preservation of their genes Study co-authors hope that their findings will encourage scientists and conservations to regard giraffes as intelligent, group-living mammals that have evolved highly successful and complex societies My notes: A new article on giraffes that is an interesting read.

No, I didn't know they were endangered...that's terrible. And, killing them for their tails!? Barbaric & Unbelievable! And, the "Grandmother hypothesis", I didn't know that, either. Yes, they're proving themselves to be highly intelligent...how cool is that ?!

Aren't Giraffes poor, peace-loving creatures ? I think all animals are peace-loving until provoked.

Wild elephants cannot be predicted. While tamed ones are very peaceful, wild elephants attack without provocation.
