www.familyhandyman.com/article/what-are-earth-sheltered-homes"If you're looking for an eco-friendly and energy-efficient home with additional privacy, this might be the style for you. You don’t need to be named Frodo Baggins or live in The Shire to enjoy the benefits of an earth-sheltered home. Earth-sheltered homes, aka underground or subterranean homes, are eco-friendly and energy-efficient residences built partially or entirely below ground level...." My notes: I actually saw a bermed house before that was for sale. While I would love to be more eco-friendly, not having natural sunlight would be a deal-breaker.

Naw, they are not for me. Too hidden. Need fresh air. Not dirt.

No, not for me, either...not enough natural lighting & fresh air and I wouldn't like the feeling of being 'underground'...nope, nope

I have always wondered why houses are not focused more on their basements for a living area and the first floor for their social area. 90% of the year, the temps in our basement are great for sleeping and the first and above floors need massive HVAC to stay comfortable.
