healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2020/07/20/does-shaving-a-dog-or-cat-help-them-stay-cooler.aspx Story at-a-glance Most cats and many dogs shouldn’t have their coats shaved, even during the heat of summer It may seem counterintuitive, but your pet’s coat actually provides heat relief in warm weather Many long-haired cats can require regular brushing to prevent mats that ultimately lead to a “buzzcut” As a general rule dogs shouldn’t be shaved, either; however, there are exceptions, such as dogs with chronic hot spots Some dogs actually really like a very short coat; in this case, consider a “puppy cut” My notes: I brush our pets as much as they allow me lol

We have a Shih Tzu who requires grooming professionally once a month and multiple brushes a day.
If we did not do this her fur would grow forever and she would be a matted mess.

I had a westie and I had to take him the groomers every couple of months, his fur would grow very quick.

We brush but we don't shave our pets.
