An idea taken from Social Networking Services that safeinsanity & I were talking about. Are forums considered a Social Network? Are they considered a form of Social Media? Webster dictionary on social network: "the creation and maintenance of personal and business relationships especially online" Webster dictionary on social media: "forms of electronic communication (such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (such as videos)" I think with those definitions, forums could be classified in both categories. I prefer the forum style of boards, posts, & replies over other styles where you have to scroll & things get lost in the shuffle. But then social media, the term, for me anyways, has a negative connotation. They "feel" colder. What are your opinions?

Going by your definitions I'd say they would have to be considered social media. I think forums are unique though for the reasons you and safeinsanity said, which I much prefer.

They are a little bit of both. Unlike websites like FB though, forums are more structured and one can easily find what they are looking for.

Steve, spice, Galra Keith, Thank you for your answers! I honestly don't know what people see in social media. You scroll & posts are not organized at all. A newbie posting an intro gets shoved to the side once somebody else posts something.
