We have some friends who bought one of those gas powered campfires. They are quite calming without the smell & smoke. As much as I like natural, & loved campfires as a kid, I would opt for the fake one nowadays. As long as they look just like the actual fire burning.

Real campfire but I can definitely see that attraction of a fake one. I never considered one until we visited our friends who have one outside. Easier to maintain.

Nothing beats a real camp fire, though I rather have one without the smoke if possible but still, the heat is nice on a cold day.
