Do you say simply Hi? Hello? Do you spice it up to trick some people especially if you know who is calling? If it’s somebody I know, I may say Howdy or something just completely off the wall to make them laugh. Makes their day

I say Hello and that's it.
I get a lot of telemarketers. They want you to say "yes" to record it and use it unethically.
I never say yes, I just keep saying hello.
In all honesty, I rarely talk on the phone. I'd rather text or email.

In all honesty, I rarely talk on the phone. I'd rather text or email. I don't answer the telemarketers calls but I had to once when I was waiting for a call back from a doctor's office and the area code was the same one...and then I was mad that it wasn't them LOL But when they asked me questions, I made sure to give them other types of responses, "This is she" instead of yes. And then I start in with the "Who is this?" "What's the nature of your business?" I try to take control of the call. They end up not liking me.

Depends on who is calling, but I usually say hi this is *insert first name*, it's old style, but it's how I grew up from the days of a landline lol.

Bob, hikershawn, lainee, lammchen, demonskeith, Steve, Thank you for the answers here! Lammchen, I read an article years ago about a guy who loved playing with the telemarketers who called. Back then, it was more an annoyance than "they get your number now". He had all sorts of conversations with them. Many hung up on HIM irritated, annoyed, angry, frustrated lol Demonskeith We still have the "old" landline we use lol

Many years of customer service has driven the following to be said each and every time I pick up the phone:
"Hello, this is Kaitlyn [with __ organization __]. How may I help you?"

Yes. I always answer the phone in a polite, professional demeanor. It's great because it usually throws off telemarketers expecting a housewife or something, but sounds like they've miscalled the number of a business instead.

Have any of them hung up on you thinking that? lol
