www.barkandwhiskers.com/2023-09-27-why-are-dog-attacks-on-the-riseStory at-a-glance Dog attacks in England and Wales have increased 34% over the last five years, a rise that may be largely due to communication misunderstandings A survey of 1,535 people suggested many may be inadvertently ignoring dogs' warning signals, putting them at risk of a dog bite in the process Owner error was, in fact, responsible for a large number of dog bite injuries Under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, certain dog breeds are banned in the U.K., but the team suggested the breed bans aren't working to reduce dog attacks, and the focus should be shifted away from breed bans to education and awareness-raising Early, proper and ongoing socialization for your dog, along with respecting your dog's boundaries and recognizing signs of fear and stress, are key for dog bite prevention My notes: Animals won't bite unless provoked or scared. Sometimes they may be defending another human or another animal, such as their own babies. Education is vital in this as dogs can't convey their emotions so humans need to be aware of the warning signs.

I actually hate taking our dogs out in public anymore as people and kids just run up to them and start petting them and stuff. Thankfully our dogs are well trained, but I would never allow anyone to just run up to them without any sort of "let's make sure there are no problems" first, especially with kids. Our fence and stuff are honestly to protect the dogs from people more than anything else. I just don't understand the logic behind parents letting their kids do stuff like this and then the parents themselves doing it. Sadly though, when a person rushes a dog and starts touching them, it is the dog's fault if they get scared and bite.

Oddly enough, I've seen a few increases of stories about dog attacks in my town of late. Not sure why they are attacking, but if one started to run towards me, it better be ready to take a kick to the face.

Sadly though, when a person rushes a dog and starts touching them, it is the dog's fault if they get scared and bite. Our dog is skittish if she doesn't know you are coming to her. She has a past of abuse. Even being "mommy's girl", I know to go to her when she can see me. I even taught her words so I can touch various body parts & I do the word BEFORE I touch her. If people rush up to her, I let them know to Please Ask. I have had a few very thoughtful kids ask, Can I pet your dog? Which I appreciated! Oddly enough, I've seen a few increases of stories about dog attacks in my town of late. Not sure why they are attacking, but if one started to run towards me, it better be ready to take a kick to the face. We have strays around here & while my dog is well behaved & listens to me, I don't take chances. If a dog were to rush up threatening, I would defend us.

People don't know boundaries. With each other or animals. They just run up to any dog and then wonder why that dog barks, growls, or bites them. Stupid people!
