First, what do you refer them as? I always called them Pagers. Even though we never had one. Who has had one? What did you use it for? We had pagers before they had cellphones that didn't cost a fortune. If my wife paged me with a 911 it was obviously and emergency, at least, in her mind.

Depends on the pager. A local one would be about a half mile. The normal one people used to buy didn't have a range limit within the country.

I remember seeing them from tv shows and what not, I never had one and really glad I didn't. They seem like a painful bother.
