www.barkandwhiskers.com/2023-10-28-long-lived-catsStory at-a-glance Well-cared for feline family members can live into their late teens and 20s, providing their humans understand that diseases in domestic cats are primarily lifestyle-related and within their control To provide your cat with a lifestyle that will optimize his health and lifespan, your focus should be on feeding the right diet, keeping him lean and well-exercised, and providing a feline-friendly indoor environment with safe and supervised access to the outdoors Crate training, grooming assistance and regular veterinary wellness visits to check organ function are also extremely important in ensuring you're doing all you can to help your cat live a long life in good health My notes: We all want our furbabies to live longer. Crate training was a new one for me. I had never heard of it for cats. I guess it can be beneficial, like it is for dogs. Any of you crate trained your cat? How did it go?

Who crate trains their cat? Yeah, many can live a long life with the proper diet and supplements to keep them healthy.

Indoor cats which mine are definitely have longer life spans than outdoor ones. Dusty made it to 15 and Smokey is 11.

Indoor cats which mine are definitely have longer life spans than outdoor ones. Dusty made it to 15 and Smokey is 11. We have indoor but they are outdoor to our fenced yard out of our walkout basement. Our last one passed away at the age of 18!
I hope yours live many more years as well

I agree we want to see them last forever, but only if healthy. If they aren't doing well, its best to let them go and be at peace.

Got a co-worker who tells me about this one cat his family had on a farm, poor thing sounded miserable but wouldn't do anything to put it out of its misery

I must have done something right because my boy made it to 22 years old. 😺 Oh wow! That is a great age! Normally they live 12 to 18 years. Wish ours lived long. Ours lived to be 18. Got a co-worker who tells me about this one cat his family had on a farm, poor thing sounded miserable but wouldn't do anything to put it out of its misery I grew up with farms all around. The farmers liked having barn cats & mousers but didn't take care of them really. I hope eventually that poor cat died on its own or they did the humane thing.
