www.barkandwhiskers.com/2023-12-05-adding-another-feline-to-your-householdStory at-a-glance Many people mistakenly assume that two adult cats who are strangers will become buddies living under the same roof Forced to cohabitate, cats who are not socially compatible can become very stressed, which can have a negative effect on their behavior and health Felines are naturally solitary creatures, and even cats who've grown up together can lose their relationship The best approach to building a harmonious multi-cat household is to adopt kitten siblings or unrelated kittens who can establish a bond before they reach the age of social maturity In the case of adult cats, it's very important to properly introduce the new kitty into your home in a way that feels non-threatening to your existing cat My notes: What has worked for your family? We got ours as kittens so they grew up together. We haven't added any so I honestly am not sure how I would go about it when the time comes when all pass away. The remaining 2 are elderly.

When they are kittens, they are easier. There's no established territory yet.

I've thought about getting a second cat but I don't know after reading this.
I thought having a second cat would provide companionship to the cat I've already got.

When they are kittens, they are easier. There's no established territory yet. I agree with that! Kittens, & puppies, can get along with one another easier. I've thought about getting a second cat but I don't know after reading this. I thought having a second cat would provide companionship to the cat I've already got. I think it depends on your cat. We have 2 remaining. Our male would get along with any creature. He loves everybody & is easy-going. Our female gets along with our male but swats him sometimes if he starts playing a bit too rough or too much for her liking. So I'm thinking she'd have more of an issue than he would with another cat. However, they both have done great with dogs. Our current one, the one we had before that, & when we were in between dogs & fostering some.
You could try fostering a cat & see.

@zandrajoi I have thought about getting a second cat. The cat I have is a male but he seems pretty easy going though.....or he's easy going around my hubby and I. My hubby says that he thinks we won the lottery when it comes to cats because we got such a good cat.
