What do you do about lawncare? For me, I just mow and currently use Milorganite (supposedly organic fertilizer). I wasn't sure what you all do and if you use any chemical to assist with certain problems. I imagine many of this forum avoid or try to avoid using chemicals!

I grew up with a grandpa that was all about his garden, so I learned a lot of things and do well with the lawn. Such as fertilizing it, mowing it a certain way and keeping it nice looking. I will however, not water it when there is no rain.

We have sandy soil so really we don't have much of a lawn. We have 10 acres, a couple are considered "lawn", the rest is wooded. We don't use any chemicals in the lawn nor garden. We tried Milorganite at our last house but didn't notice a difference. What do you use it for? I will however, not water it when there is no rain. You don't water your lawn at all? We don't.

I live in the northeast so we prepare in fall and spring. I fertilize with milorganite just to help make sure the grass has enough nutrients. I also do soil testing to see if there's any natural product I need to add to balance levels.

How do you go about doing the soil testing? I've always thought about doing it.

They sell soil testing kits that generally test for: pH, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium . That way you can add proper fertilizer/materials as needed to get the right composition for best growth!
