www.barkandwhiskers.com/2023-12-15-storm-phobic-dogsStory at-a-glance Thunderstorm phobia causes extreme anxiety and discomfort for dogs, and is a serious stress-related health concern One of the first things you should do for a storm-phobic dog is create a safe spot he or she can use during thunderstorms It's also very important to implement behavioral interventions such as distraction, desensitization, and counterconditioning Talk to your integrative or holistic veterinarian about natural calming therapies My notes: Storms can be frightening for all creatures. What do you do to help yours? What I learned is to not make a big deal out of it. Dogs especially mimic their owners. If you have a scared energy, they will feed off of it. Try to have a calm energy. It can be hard if you yourself jump at thunder & loud noises!
