Why do some Files come in Zip file format? Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I’ve downloaded some files & some are in Zip while others are not. What is the reasoning? Another question, how can you send a file in Zip format then?

Zip compresses the files to be a smaller size, allowing for easier transfer to another destination. Also, it is perfect for transferring many files at once. You used to need something like 7zip to open them, but now Windows has an extract feature you can use.

So it makes it easier to send?

Yes, if a total folder of files is 50MB in size and you zip it, the process should reduce it to 25MB or lower to either attach it to emails or fit more onto an usb or other storage area.

I use Zip files as an easy way to send email attachments. If I have a PDF book that I want to store offsite in a location that I can easily get access to, I'll compress the book in a ZIP file so that I can attach it to an email, and send it to myself. ZIP files are useful for collections of smaller files too. As a software developer, I used ZIP files to keep collections of files together.

How do you go about sending via a zip file?

Yes, it'll work for pretty much any file. Sending a zip file is as easy as just using the Attach feature on an email.

Basically you just zip up a file folder on your desktop. So if you need to send something, make a new folder or use a current one, throw what you need into it and go through the zip option, but this video shows it best:

Senkusha, demonskeith, Thank you both for the valuable info & video. I tend to send a lot of pictures via email but have to send several emails to get them all to go through. This will be an easier way.
