earthsky.org/space/galaxy-without-stars-j061352-green-bank"Galaxies are giant islands of stars, gas, dust and dark matter held together by gravity. At the annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society on January 8, 2024, astronomers from the Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia said they’ve found an unusual galaxy: one without any stars. And they discovered it completely by accident!..." My notes: You wouldn't think a galaxy wouldn't exist without at least ONE star. Even a sun is considered a star.

I hardly believe a galaxy as defined could exist without stars.

Nope, can't imagine a galaxy without stars. IMHO, it's not even possible....is it??

Steve, lainee, We'll keep updated on this because this just doesn't sound like the definition of a galaxy. This one is high in gas which apparently is not conducive to forming stars.

This one is high in gas ... Well, so am I and I don't produce any stars either.

I hardly believe a galaxy as defined could exist without stars. It’s not a galaxy….?

Definition of the word 'galaxy' from here: A galaxy is a system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter bound together by gravity.

Well, so am I and I don't produce any stars either. Different gas They may be changing definitions out there. Definition of the word 'galaxy' from here: A galaxy is a system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter bound together by gravity. Maybe they are determining other factors?

It's pretty far away though? Wonder if they are seeing it right with the telescopes?

Doesn't seem possible.

It's pretty far away though? Wonder if they are seeing it right with the telescopes? They can see other galaxies. I wonder if they will redo the definition. Or just create something new to explain this. To me either.
