I can't think of the term for the dogs with the flat faces...brach something or other...
My daughter owns a bulldog and she's a high risk for surgery because of her breed. She was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor and my daughter is really worried about her making it through. It's a very small tumor so it shouldn't be a very long or complicated surgery.
Does anyone else have a breed who is high risk?

Brachycephalic. Yeah, dog breeds with flat faces. None of our dogs have been high risk. The dog's age can be a risk factor too. Location of the tumor.

lammchen, We've been fortunate to not have high risk dogs. As they get older, they have their own set of problems due to their age so I agree with Bob about age being a risk factor. How old is the dog? When will the surgery be?

The dog is about 4 or 5 years old and the tumor is a small one that the doctor at first just thought was a skin tag on her neck.

Our dogs had small bumps & the vet just told us to keep a watch on them. They never got any bigger. Did this one get bigger then?

It was just discovered to be cancerous so they don't want it to spread to the lymph nodes. Her surgery is set for Feb 15. I know my daughter i super stressed for her "baby".

I have an update on my daughter's dog. She made it through surgery and her first night, which was rough when she woke up in pain and it took a while for the pain pills to work. But then 24 hours later, she was doing so much better!! Whew.

Glad to hear the surgery went well, though I wouldn't want to own a high risk breed like that, I couldn't afford it.

I hear the vet bills are not cheap these days either, which isn't helping anything at all.

I'm glad all went well with the surgery. Yeah, vet bills are not cheap. Throw in good food and supplements. Toys. But we love our pets.
