When writing stories & had a Really Great one, how do you continue on when others you write just don’t hold a candle? That you don’t think you can do any better. That you have hit your limit. Sometimes there comes a point where there's something we have written & (we feel) it's the best to date. & then we just sit back & wonder, Now what? What's next? You try to write more & subsequent writings leave you scratching your head as, while they are "okay", you are drawn back to that "great" story you wrote. How do you move on from that? I write. A lot. The majority is for my own eyes & some were "great" (if they helped me heal, that's what matters ) but then I get, not writer's block, as I still have ideas pouring out, but I just shrug & the next ones aren't as good. What do you do for that? Senkusha

I know that I've written some masterpieces, however, I'm not trying to top myself over and over again. I'm just writing to share a story. Maybe I want to try telling the same story for a different perspective, think it's kind of like an experiment. I write because I want to, and because I have fun writing (I wish I had more time to just sit and write, but I have such little time off, and I'm so overworked, that I barely have the energy to do basic chores -- like today, was my day off, and I vegged out and watched a bunch of Hazbin Hotel. I got a lot of great ideas, plots, maybe some character ideas that I could add into my own little world (yeah, there's already a bunch of fan fiction). I might try forming something together, but my day is nearly done, and I'm just now feeling the creativity to flow. But in the back of my mind, I know that tomorrow morning I'll have to get back to work, and by the time I'm finished, I'm just out of energy.)
If I could find a solution to this problem, I'd probably be writing a lot more! I know that if I started writing, it would just hang there and then I'd forget what I was writing, and then it would die in the middle of the first chapter or so.
Sorry, I didn't really answer your question. I guess I'm just frustrated that I don't feel that I can actually write anymore because I don't seem to have enough energy to do it. Perhaps the answer to your question is to ask a question: Why do you write? You mentioned you do it for personal/private, with only yourself as the audience? I write because I want to share. I don't really care if people dislike what I write, but I love the feeling when people rave about what I've written.

Define 'best story' Perhaps, that WAS the best story, at THAT time. Life goes on...it's always evolving. You're evolving. You experience new and wonderful things (and, some not so wonderful, but still part of it). When you are a True Writer and you have that 'spark', you'll find your other stories in there....somewhere.

Yes, I write for my own personal use. To make me feel better. To get out ideas into stories. To change a scenario.
I don't try to top myself but sometimes, admittedly, some of them are quite good where they bring about a peace & satisfaction. You know how when you read another's story or even watch a movie, & you just cannot stop thinking about it? That's how I feel. I tried writing different ones & they just... they were okay but, I just kept referring back to THEE story. I don't want to think I'm, for lack of better word & it's made up word lol, storied out, but some stories resonate deep within. & then when they are your own to mold as you please, as you wish, & most of all, as you may NEED, nothing beats that.
But I also know we continue to learn & grow & our lives shape into something new. THEN I'll have the next story that I will then too, just sit back & revel in it. I hope you will be able to find the time to get your creativity out on paper. It’s a great knack you have.

Thank you for your heartfelt answer Lainee
