Here’s a question I thought of. You know how we are told to unplug items from the electrical outlet to save on “vampire energy”. Does the same hold true for items plugged into USB ports? We have our camera, my mouse, etc to charge up. Sometimes I unplug the cord when done, other times I have just kept them plugged in. Anybody know? What do you do?

Overcharging by leaving them in isn't the best idea in my opinion. But I guess most electronics these days have a way to prevent it.

I charge my phone, watch and tablet via USB port. The phone and watch cables are plugged into a power strip which is connected to my computer. It only turns on when my computer is on so I charge my phone every morning and the watch once a week. The cords stay plugged into the power strip though.

I always unplug the cable once done, I don't care if there are features or not, it's just better to have it disconnected in case of power surges.

I bought special outlets that I can plug in over my existing electrical outlets that include several plugs, and USB ports. So now I can just plug in my USB cable to charge my phone, and not have to worry about the adapter consuming power when not in use. It's really nice because the old plug was worn out so any plug you'd plug in would fall out if it was nudged. The new adapter has a screw that replaces the outlet cover so now I don't have to worry about my plugs falling out anymore either. Not bad for $14. Surge Protector Outlet Extender

Steve, spice, demonskeith, Senkusha, Thank you for the replies! Senkusha, the link goes right back to the thread. PB tends to be picky at times with links. I've had to redo many of them myself.

I fixed it! Looks like for whatever reason, the URL was blank.

Holy crap! After reading through the specs and protection it gives you, I really like it. Gonna have to get a couple for myself. Thanks!

Yeah, I love this plug extender. I really love that I can screw it into the outlet too. I'll probably buy a couple more, especially for the kitchen.

I'm confused on the 'C' outlets though Senkusha. I can't see how they would work the way the picture shows.

You have two USB-A (Standard, old school) ports and two USB-C (newer, reversible) ports with the five standard outlets. I guess I'm confused with what you're confused with?

Oooh that looks pretty neat, I should pick up a few for my outlets I don't have surge protectors plugged into

I'm referring to the two C connections between the middle screw and the usb ports. The way it shows, your C cord would have to have two male ends in order to charge anything and I've never seen any of those.

Most phone chargers come with a detachable wall plug. So the USB cable is actually Male to Male.
