From Wiki: "eCAPTCHA Inc. is a CAPTCHA system owned by Google. It enables web hosts to distinguish between human and automated access to websites. The original version asked users to decipher hard to read text or match images. Version 2 also asked users to decipher text or match images if the analysis of cookies and canvas rendering suggested the page was being downloaded automatically. Since version 3, reCAPTCHA will never interrupt users and is intended to run automatically when users load pages or click buttons."
What do you think of this on forums & sites? Do you have trouble at times? Sometimes I click on what they say but they make me continue on. Those are times I doubt my sanity lol Do you have this on your site or forum for accessing? Do you get to choose the images or is that random? If one wanted this for their site, how do you go about downloading it?

reCaptcha sooooo sucks. There's a much better way to (at least on SMF) of preventing automated and spammer access.

I hate having to do all of those, but I understand the reasoning why. I just wish I could get some type of online credentials that would carry over to all the sites I need. One of you should invent that. For anyone who gets reported for spamming and has credentials, they get investigated and if found to be true, their credentials are permanently revoked.

Steve, lammchen, spice, Thank you for the replies! It'd be nice if somebody could invent a better way of doing this.

It'd be nice if somebody could invent a better way of doing this. There is a better way. Whether Proboards has the ability to use it is the question ...

I can't stand the use of reCAPTCHA. It drives me bonkers when I have to find all the "traffic lights" or "bicycles" and then It still thinks that I'm a robot.
Although, I'm not sure where I read it, there is a anti-spam detection method that looks at how your mouse moves to click on a button and that determines if you're a human or not. I think if the movement is too precise (smooth, aligned, etc) it will determine you to be a robot.

However if it's AI, & they can learn & adapt, they would "learn" to have less precise of movements.

Like anything else in life, this is only a temporary fix. As people innovate and come up with more "cat and mouse" games to play.

I'm not a fan of reCAPTCHA, it's picky sometimes. I understand that it's meant to help combat spam but it's annoying lol.

It's annoying and I think most base forms are now no longer useable due to bots being made to get around it.

There is a better way. Whether Proboards has the ability to use it is the question ... Interesting. What is the other alternative? Like I said, I don't know whether Proboards has this capability or not, from the SMF Support Forum: We recommend a bank of 20 to 30 questions and asking 2 or 3 during registration. Switch up the asked questions now and then. You can make them more difficult if you want. For example: Enter the capital letters in the word HoLiStIc etc.

Seems with our tech, we can devise something better lol It's annoying and I think most base forms are now no longer useable due to bots being made to get around it. Bots are getting smarter! Interesting. What is the other alternative? Like I said, I don't know whether Proboards has this capability or not, from the SMF Support Forum: We recommend a bank of 20 to 30 questions and asking 2 or 3 during registration. I've seen that on other forums, like Xenforo where the questions were individualized. Like what is the name of the forum (when it's different than the URL). Or write (word) backwards.
I haven't seen it however on Proboards & not sure if they would implement it since V6 got put on the backburner. It'd be a nice, safe step though!
