Okay, it's been a super long time since I've cooked cabbage. What did I do wrong? It turned out to become mush. I boiled it with some thinly sliced carrots, then strained, added salt, butter, and pepper, and pan "fried" it, but it didn't fry.

How long did you cook it for? Though I hate the smell of cook cabbage.

I boiled it for like seven minutes. I wanted to make sure the carrots "melted" a little bit. LOL

Mushy usually means cooked too long. Seven minutes doesn't seem long. Was it high heat?

If I'm going to pan fry cabbage, I don't boil it first. You can cook the carrots separately to begin with and then remove the liquid because that's probably what happened, too much liquid all around.
What I do for the cabbage is cut it up into wedges and then pan fry it in butter for a couple minutes, add a tablespoon or two of water and then put on the lid to steam it a bit. I add salt and beef bouillon seasoning to make it a little tastier. It takes about 15 minutes maybe with the lid on? Stir every 5 minutes.

Mushy usually means cooked too long. Seven minutes doesn't seem long. Was it high heat? The water was already boiling, so I guess maybe it was on medium heat?
