www.familyhandyman.com/article/heres-how-often-you-need-to-replace-everything-in-your-home "Things in your home will wear down, break and need to be out right replaced — NOT fixed. But how long should expect that new dishwasher to last, or the deck you built a couple summers ago? Here’s how often you can expect, and should, replace everything in your home...." My notes: Do you tend to follow these tips? It's actually a good article as some things we don't know if we need to replace, should replace, etc. We don't like to upgrade just to upgrade, that goes for computers to appliances, so as long as things are running good, that's what we go by.

Replace things as needed or if you can get a better deal. If I end up buying the place I am staying at now, I'm going to replace the fridge/stove when I can get a good deal instead of out of the blue on a non-sale day.

Right now, we're looking at different places for a new roof. We'll get a few quotes, and decide on one of them So far, we've heard that it's VERY important that they're Insured, Bonded and Licensed

So far, we've heard that it's VERY important that they're Insured, Bonded and Licensed Truth! I expect at least 10 years out of most applicances and the deck and roof can stay the way they are until I HAVE to replace/fix them.

It's a shame things don't run like they used to, my grandparents still have a fridge running from the 80s. Good luck finding anything like that today.

Good info but most of them are so ambiguous. Like a refrigerator 6-15 years. That's a big spread. Some only last 8 years.

Nothing lasts as long as it used to. Supply and demand means it tends to be done using cheap labour, less quality materials.

Oh yeah, I've heard of Planned Obsolescence. Big Companies just want more of our money!
