7 years ago I tore out all the old landscape, except the plants and put down fresh plastic and mulch. Since then, we've been buying bags to fill in the mulch each season, but this year, I took out the old mulch (and put it in spots around the house that needed building up) and then saw that the plastic I used was in perfect condition, so all I had to do was add fresh mulch. Except in one area where we had seepage in the basement, and in that area I added dirt and new plastic to raise it up so it drained away from the house. This all took 2 days to do and I'm wiped out!! I'm not used to hard labor. I think in 7 years I'll hire someone to do it.

If I buy the place I'm at now, I'm going to have to redo the whole yard somehow, it will be fun for sure.

I used to have mulch & top it off every year but the weeds still found a way through it. Cloth landscape fabric didn't deter all either. So the cedar & fabric were removed years ago. I haven't really done anything different. I like planting the tried & true flowers. Got sick of wasting money on seeds that didn't sprout lol
