Thomas Alva Edison. "In his 84 years, he acquired an astounding 1,093 patents. Aside from being an inventor, Edison also managed to become a successful manufacturer and businessman, marketing his inventions to the public."
"Why was Thomas Edison kicked out of school? To seek a better fortune, Sam Edison moved the family to Port Huron, Michigan, in 1854, where he worked in the lumber business. Edison was a poor student. When a schoolmaster called Edison "addled," his furious mother took him out of the school and proceeded to teach him at home."
My notes: Port Huron is by the Canadian Border, NorthEast of Detroit.

Note: Edison did not invent the light bulb. A man named Humphry Davy did.

Note: Edison did not invent the light bulb. A man named Humphry Davy did. Thank you for that correction! I do recall reading up that Edison didn't invent the light bulb first. He was also not a nice guy.

Queen Victoria. During the reign of Queen Victoria in Britian, the state rooms of the Twickenham Palace Hampton Court were opened. Later on, nearly 1,000 rooms were given as “grace & favour” accomodations for the widows & children of those who had served in the Queen’s Service. My notes: I thought that was such a kind thing for her to do! Any of you been to Twickenham Palace? I haven't been out of the USA so my answer is No

I've never been either, though I've been to most other sites worth seeing in England.

Crete. The first important European civilization that began about 5,000 years ago was Crete of the Minoan culture. The Crete flourished as a hub of culture, including art & mythology to also education & engineering.
My notes: We think of ourselves as civilized but I think these cultures, people such as these, are more so.

Johannes Brahms. He was a child prodigy. He was a pianist, composer who gave his first concert at the age of 15. By the age of 20, he started to compose the emotional music he is known for & is still played.
My notes: Have you listened to his music? What is your favorite? I know I've listened to his music before but I can't pick out a particular one.

Vikings. The Vikings ruled from the 8th to the 10th century on the seas. One trick they used for navigation was releasing ravens from the ships & following them. Ravens are known for their knack for finding land.
My notes: It seems the iconic horned helmets were NOT part of their culture. What do you think about the Vikings' history? It's shrouded in myths & mystery but is still a fascinating read.

I knew the Vikings didn't wear horns and that they also discovered America.
