Per Wiki: "The Emergency Broadcast System (EBS), sometimes called the Emergency Action Notification System (EANS), was an emergency warning system used in the United States. It was the most commonly used, along with the Emergency Override system. It replaced the previous CONELRAD system and was used from 1963 to 1997, at which point it was replaced by the Emergency Alert System."
Who remembers this & the distinctive noise? I remember it coming on & saying something like: "This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a test."

Ours goes off like the first Wednesday of every month as a means of testing. I hate the loudness, but it is needed.

I hated their tests. They always picked the most inopportune moments to test the system. Come to think of it, that may be the whole point.
