It's stairs that I have used for as long as I can remember. Never used steps even once. It doesn't sound right in my ears.

Of course, if you're on a Navy ship, the whole thing is called a ladder, not stairs or stairwell or any other such nonsense thing.

I call them stairs most of the time, sometimes I'll call them steps lol. I didn't really know there was a difference to be honest with you though.
