www.naturalawakenings.com/2022/02/28/389336/beyond-kibble-how-to-shop-for-the-healthiest-pet-food "People are always striving to improve the quality of life for their pets. For some, this means making homemade dog and cat food or buying meat directly from a local butcher, but not all pet parents have the necessary time, space or finances. While there are better quality kibble and canned pet foods available today than in the past, along with frozen raw and freeze-dried raw foods, an overwhelming volume of choices can confuse even the savviest consumer. Cecille O’Brien Greenleaf, a holistic veterinarian in San Jose, California, advises pet parents to use the same criteria they do when shopping for human food—look for the freshest, cleanest ingredients possible, a limited ingredient panel and no chemicals and pesticides...." My notes: We get the Halo brand, dry & wet food. Other brands I didn't care for their answers to my questions. I don't appreciate greenwashing. While I wish we could do raw & homemade, we don't do it 100% of the time. Our dog is easy; she'll eat anything. Our cats are extremely picky. For a rant I made on a greenwash pet food: Earthborn

I have a miniature pinscher and her name is Chloe, she just turned 7 years old last October. I've noticed that the older she gets, the more she scavenges for food even though she's fed multiple times every day. I recently took her to the vet around a month or two ago because she was having diarrhea and blood in her stool. Basically, she was eating something outside during the day that was causing her bowels to become inflamed. I have tried to feed her other healthy alternatives rather than just dog food, but it's been extremely difficult to find healthy food for my doggo. Thank you for sharing the above information with us.

healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/05/01/pet-food-claims.aspxStory at-a-glance Big pet food spends big money on marketing, which is why it's so important for pet parents to learn to spot the spin Pet food producers describe their formulas as "natural"; as a purchaser of their products for your dog or cat, you should be aware there’s nothing natural about ultraprocessed pet (or human) food These pet food manufacturers also describe rendered, extruded formulas with dozens of added animal feed-grade ingredients as "clean" pet food; as a savvy consumer and pet parent, you recognize that ultraprocessed diets designed for extended shelf life can't possibly be "clean" Another example: Rice bran is described by pet food producers as a "superfood" for pets; you, however, know that it's a highly problematic, biologically inappropriate ingredient My notes: Putting this one here as it's appropriate to shopping for healthy pet food.
