When did you learn how to type? Can you type fast? What about correctly? I learned in the 10th grade in computer class. Back then it was those old style ones where you had to “boot” them up. I can type fairly fast & have some accuracy. Although there are times I type faster because my mind is going fast so that is when errors start to form.

Back then it was those old style ones where you had to “boot” them up. You youngsters don't know how good you had it. I learned on one of the old 'bang on the keys' with a ribbon you had to change periodically types. And I was assigned the only typewriter in the class where all the keys were blank so I had to learn quickly how to type without looking at the keys. Oddly enough, even now, I type much faster without looking at the keyboard. I was in the 60 words a minute range with few errors. We were taught to type 'words', not letters. e.g. we didn't type t then h then e for 'the', we typed 'the'. Much quicker.

I learned in school. I can type accurately. I keep my fingers on the right keys. I guess it would be fairly fast. I don't know. Never tested it.

The ones with the keys so spread apart that you could loose a finger in between the keys!
I learned in the ninth grade in Keyboarding class, using a program based on Word Perfect 5.1 (I think it was) I've been known to type upwards of 80+ WPM, when I'm writing creatively (fan fiction), my brain goes so fast sometimes. Thank goddess for spell check! Ordinarily, I'll do somewhere between 40 and 55 WPM though.

My parents had an old typewriter I remember using for a bit lol You had to manually push it to the side or something to go to the next line. Or who knows, may have just been old & worn out lol
Learning that way I can see how it would be better. I taught myself Sign Language & one of the tips was think in words not letters.

We are the same age so the typewriter we had, you could almost fit a finger in between as well.
That's why I love to type. My mind goes faster than the words can come out & I can type faster than I can write. Even in my own shorthand.
I actually posted in Books about FanFic you may like

In grade school I got access to a keyboard, in jr high school is when I started to get lessons to become better. After a while I went from poking at the keyboard to typing pretty well.

Steve, Bob, Senkusha, demonskeith, I wonder if they still teach typing what with people having phones that they are now, in a way, going back to "poking".

I'd be surprised if they have a typing class anymore.

Steve, Senkusha, Maybe it's for businesses where you would need typing skills & a desktop to do your job.
